A Dilema

April 21st, 2009 at 01:51 am

In the last few months I have been facing a dilema of sorts. My fortieth birthday came and went this past December and like a lot of folks my age I had given no thought to retirement. It has always been so far away and it has been something I have put off. Well forty made me begin to think that it was time to do something to start preparing for the event as it is now only twenty to twenty five years out. The first step was to asses my current savings program. This didn't take but a moment as I am self-employed and I don't have a 401(k). So there I sat after the evaluation with a startling realization - I was destined to live my retirement years in poverty unless something changed. My quick mind came up with a solution - start an investment program!! Many people would say that this should have been obvious and I agree but it is something that I haven't acted on until about a month ago. Prior to taking action though I spent several months reading and studying book after book with the goal of creating a retirement program that someone at my level could consistently follow. What level is that you ask? It is the level of living paycheck to paycheck! I am sure that many who read this article can relate with my circumstance. Every book I have read instructed me to determine a set amount to invest each month and to consistently invest that amount. The problem though is that I don't have an amount I can consistently commit to. Sound familiar??? Well I have discovered a way that even someone with a limited amount of money can implement which will put them on the path of investment success. It isn't a magic formula but already in just two months I have been able to put away almost $700 by following this formula. This is something I have accomplished when my business has seen a drop of almost 30% in sales and it is something I will teach you how to do as well!
